Overreacting overreactions...

Is this fair? Celtic have been fined, quite rightly, £25,000 (should have been more) for the disgraceful incident last week when a fan ran on to the pitch and appeared to hit the AC Milan Goalie (Dida). What I find odd is that Dida has been banned for two matches??!!! Presumably for his overreaction after chasing the fan; hang on a minute though...this is what footballers do every game of every week. Is the ban because of the long delay - him getting stretchered off and replaced etc? If so then perhaps football has finally taken a turn for the better and the whinging, wanker pansies that call themselves sportsmen can start to behave as they should...but...what happens the 10 or 15 times in every game I see when a player goes down screaming and shouting (literally) and is often treated, sometimes stretchered-off, sometimes replaced etc...and nothing happens?

Span - Tut tut

What do you expect?

Following the team the National Rugby Team fielded against the AB what do you expect?

They are surely on the turn - the guy just wanted to make a point and as for the theatrics - even my ex actress wife could have turned in a better performance!

As for how often they go down – the analogy to sexual practices is not worthy of your column!

For acting that bad he should have been banned for far longer!

It would be lovely to think that all over acting footballers are in future, going to be banned for at least a couple of matches but it might pose a few problems for the likes of Chelsea, Man U and Birmingham City, who imho have more than their fair share of players who appear to have aspirations to the stage or screen!

I would love to think that too Mags! Careful, I believe Kenji may be a Blues fan...meaning Chelski not the brummie Blues.

Kenji, you wouldn't catch me doing silly double entendres on my blog! Whatever next? but goalies like Dida are never going to be like the rest of us, all day handling his balls...oh, hang on a minute.

Dida transgressed both the unwritten and the written laws of football. Football is quite anarchic really, you can kick lumps out of each other all day long and then get charged with ungentlemanly conduct for accusing the ref of shagging his sister.

As Danny Baker once remarked after Graham Poll had sent off Patrick Vieira for foul and abusive language, "What an earth could Patrick have said that Poll hadn't heard a million times before?"

The answer was cheat. You can call a ref all the names under the sun, question his parentage, his wife's taste in lingeries, but if you question his integrity as a match official you will get sent off.

I remember Tony Adams once getting sent off for calling David Ellery ( you know, the posh one who taught at Harrow) a cheat. It must've been a long time ago becuase Arsenal were playing Millwall and I'm sure it was a league match!

You're right Shy and it was that one incident that persuaded the FA not to mic up referees in the same way they are in Rugby League and Union. David Ellery made Tony Adams stand up straight as well whilst he talked to him, the thing that stuck in my mind was what a squeaky voice Adams had.

oi! Patrick Vieira, Tony Adams...
you're doing it on purpose aren't you? I can't believe the only examples are Arsenal players!

I remember David Ellery, he was quite a good ref wasn't he?
