Onomatophobic onomatomania...

I'm a bit late to all the news but some things are just so "not news"...

"fuzzy-haired frog"...would that be worse, better or just the same? Would it have led to being sacked? Or more topically, what about "Curly-haired french idiot"...hypothetical I guess but if JC can get away by VERY publically calling Gordon Brown a "one-eyed Scottish idiot" why the sacking of Carol Thatcher over a 'throw-away' comment said in private?

"As some rolled their eyes and others challenged Thatcher about her use of the word, she is said to have responded, “well, he’s half-golliwog”, prompting Brand to leave the room in disgust" [link]

Well, the funniest thing about each of these stories is that these 'shocking' comments led Jo Brand to leave the room in disgust, oh the irony! And that NOBODY has had a go at Clarkson for calling Brown a liar!

I must admit I'm disappointed that Jo Brand got up and walked out. I thought she was too clever to respond in such a stereotypical way. You're right, Span. The game of "Equality & Diversity" is not played out on anything remotely resembling a level playing field. If you're black, gay or a woman your status as a victim counts for a lot more that if you're disabled or mentally ill. Of course, many columnists don't see this, a prime example being Janet Street Porter in today's "Independent on Sunday". It is the rank hypocracy of it all that sickens me.

Better stop now before I really get going!

...and it's still going on. The BBC are really milking it - clearly hoping to cover the corrupt Lords sleaze (and apparently Carol T getting death threats)

I agree entirely re Brand, she IS too clever and could just as easily made a snide quip making a joke or something against Thatcher (no trouble with snide quips usually Jo?) Never mind, the BEEB gets it so wrong...AGAIN.

I was more disappointed in Jo Brands 'joke' about Lady Thatcher but there you go. I think Carol Thatcher is clearly deluded and of a certain class and age that she feels such a remark can be said without there being any comeback. Of course the BBC over reacted it's what they do but that word is offensive and the fact that we grew up with it on our marmalade jars and that you can buy the little buggers in a shop five minutes from where I work does not mean it is condoned by the masses or condemned by all of the intellectual elite
