Outstanding...

What an outstanding reposte given by Daniel Hannan responding to the Euro version of Gordon Brown's fantasy-world ordure. Play it and pass it on: everyone should hear this: The devalued Prime Minister.

If the video doesn't appear or doesn't load corrrectly then follow the link; great comments after the video too on Playpolitical.com: Daniel Hannan MEP accuses Gordon Brown of sounding "like a Brezhnev-era apparatchik giving the party line"

Yes, I've had a few anonymous comments lately, I think it's just when people can't be bothered to fill in details etc...except when they come back and repost

:-)

Re the vid, yes and more's the pity (as one of the comments mentions) such straight talking isn't allowed in the Houses of Parliament.

I have to be honest I've been left confused by all the excitement surrounding this video - it reminded me of the Mrs Thatcher quote about Geoffrey Howe's speech being likened to being savaged by a sheep. Most Tories are anti-Eu, and therefore anti-MEP's. If they are all like i.moore then they believe that any tinkering with the British constitution is akin to asking the four horsemen to saddle-up and yet here we have a non-elected, ie not elected to the Houses of Parliament, criticising the P.M of a sovereign state and it's okay and quite hilarious. Some of it was quite clever but how many seafaring analogies does a speech need to make a point? I think this was Daniel Hannan's five minutes of fame.

Hehehe. I don't really know about all the excitement or why there was such a fuss about why the antional media hadn't picked it uo, why should they?... (they have now though!)

i.moore beat me to posting about it on the MB but we were in the 1st few thousand; I just like the speech because it says what I think about Brown...I agree entirely about the sea-faring analogies: he was wrong about that and should know better as he was addressing a house of foreigners most of whom wouldn't have half those words in their volcabluary and neither would the translators. That said the bits that were easy to understand chimed perfectly :-)

The other point nobody seems to have mentioned is that the Chamber was well over more than half empty!

It was weird about the national media though, people were posting on the messageboard saying 'typical BBC' and yet it was the second story on Radio Four as soon as it appeared.

BTW - I don't blame him for his speech or the seafaring, you know what it's like when you are on a roll and the adrenalin kicks in!
