I don't belive it ever existed to our advantage in the first place. We were in debt to the US Government for more than fifty years after WW2 and they used that to bully us. The only person who ever stood up to them was Harold Wilson over Vietnam. The rest of the time, as Bill Bailey points out, we've been stood behind them agreeing with them like some sort of stooge.
I thought Maggie and Ronnie were quite tight. Nice couple. I seriously don't think RR would have persevered so well against 'the East' had Maggie not been there.
