Ohhh...

Alright. 1964 pop art classic. "The contemporary and post-war art auction in New York has closed with another record sale – Roy Lichtenstein's "Ohhh... Alright" sold for $42.6 million (£26.4 million), taking the combined autumn sales to over $1 billion". Industrial painting pays.

You beat me to it, this was my post for the weekend. What with Warhol's coke bottle going for $21 million, that Chinese vase going for $51 million in Essex and the paintings last weekend it's been an astonishing week for art.

I remember a series of records years ago that were US pop radio shows from the days we thought American music radio was great(the 50's and early 60's)had illustrations like this(I assume drawn by this artist)on their covers...

I nearly posted on the coke bottle...but Tamara intervened and diverted my attention.

Gildy, I recall something similar and in 1973 or 4 I was one of 3 or 4 that was allowed to paint one of the school walls with a cartoon similar to the "Whaam!" picture of Lichtenstein...in fact it might have been the same, can't remember! (Stephen P, whose idea it was, would kill me!)

When I was at school we had an art teacher, Miss Jenner, who had two loves in her life: the husband of our English teacher and "Whaaam!" which she would project on the wall of the assembly hall every now and then.

Oh, she also liked me, despite the fact that I was crap at art but because I owned Rolling Stones albums.
