Onward oldies...

Great news for any old gits that are good at their job and want to continue! Forced retirement when reaching the Default Retirement Age (DRA), 'regardless of someone's ability to work' has ended. Mind you, this may just be the intro to various measures to soften the introduction of higher retirement ages.

Believe me this is no benign gift from a government grateful for the long and untiring service of it's citizens.
Watch out for the shite that comes with it.

Anon, I have No doubt about that !

Yep, the country is broke so you will have to work until you die and here's the legislation. Actually its a good thing that it is becoming law because although a lot of companies do ignore age legislation many can't be seen to going against any employment law for fear of future action.

All the above...and if you cannot be finished at 65 from work, its questionable at what point the State Pension can be claimed.

The State doesn't like citizens doing nothing and they want you to have as few years as possible where they pay you hopefully for as few years as they possibly can.

But Bankers, businessmen, politicians and the like are often protected in that they can work as and when they wish but they don't have to...

And many of those who do retire early probably have been in the public/media world.

Few will be like those who work in shops, hospitals, build roads and work in construction and so on.

Who probably do deserve some quality time.

Indeed...not only "deserve" but very otfen NEED quality time

And that quality time must be with loved one's or you are hopefully in a position where you can occupy your mind otherwise you are just filling the days and life becomes an existence. You are just waiting for your allotted time to be up.

And though some people do change things and benefit society if they are working in the fields of medicine, science and the like...most of us will be forgotten and you can understand people asking what is the point of it all and why are we here.

And what many Governments are proposing will leave many scared and worrying at the end of their lives when this should be a time where cares are lessened.
