Mexico still and yesterday (today as I write this) was their Independence Day and I spent it crossing off another 'must visit' from my list: in the Yucatan Peninsula are the wonderful and amazing (and very well looked after) ruins of
Chichen Itza, one of the largest Maya cities and also one of the new 7 Wonders of the World. I thought I'd better see it before 21.12.12, you know, when it all ends, and at 11:11pm no less: the eleventh minute of the eleventh hour...or
maybe not; interesting to note though, that on '
the winter solstice in 2012, the sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in about 26,000 years.' The image on the left is of the Ossario, a step-pyramid temple on a smaller scale to the more famous
El Castillo.

Maginificent buildings. The thing about world history (old world history) is how different civilisations around the world managed to create such fantastic structures using not disimilar methods of construction.
