Ofcom obsession...

And rightly so. What a small world; indeed...but at last it is being highlighted: Blair, Brown, Currie (ooh look, BBC), MST, Bell, Common Purpose, Charter 88, BBC all nicely interlinked. And how many other quangos and charidees are stuffed with New Labour placemen?...most of them? And many are 'Beyond Authority'.

Tim Montgomerie got it right in my opinion on Conservative Home when he said that it wasn't the fault of Labour/left that so many of them are on quangos but the reluctance of the Conservative/right to put people forward and encourage participation. The Daily Mail would do well to remember the line 'If you want to defeat your enemy sing his song' - people get involved in politics (much like they used to join the police) to make a difference. You can't complain about the club membership if you never apply for membership in the first place.

Good article on Conservative Home which hits many targets.

Here is the follow-up, can't seem to do clickable links in comments sections.

p.p.s - sorry for monopolisng the replies - but just had the thought that true Conservatives wouldn't join a Quango anyway as it smacks of big Government, so the solution would be to scrap them but then how would that leave democracy? Just putting it out there.

Yes but most a re appointed, not applied for. Interesting what Lamont says about Major: "in government but not in power" and that was BEFORE Tony Blair ramped up the percentage of Labour appointees to 75%...where it stayed more or less (70% in last year of New Labour)...so, what now? "The latest data suggests that we may have a Tory Prime Minister but you wouldn't realise if you looked at the ratio of Labour to Tory appointments. 77% of people who have political backgrounds who are getting appointed to public bodies are allied to Labour." WTF!!!!

P.S. happy to have your multiple comments :-)

P.P.S. the point re other quangos I really thought was changing, the bonfire never appeared but I was truly shocked to see that 77% figure. I have noticed Vaz and Hodge but thought they were exceptions.

P.P.P.S. the main point of the post btw was the Ofcom/Leverson/Common Purpose/BBC links.
