Ostensible old-world option...

Localisation: can this tried and tested idea work again? "Local currency to help keep money in city's economy" [Link]. The FAQs of the Bristol Pound 'stakeholder cooperative' website seems to set things out clearly enough - here we have the 'multiplier effect' of keeping the economic activity of the area in the area, so to speak.

It's an interesting concept. certainly the Lewes pound has been seen as a good thing. The Bristol idea really is one of those Sunday strokey beard moments. Will I have to wear a top hat when I go there though?

I also know that bartering is now so widespread there is actually an accounting standard on its use.

Yes, I was surprised to read there are few schemes already (Lewes, Stroud, Brixton...)

Top hat would be fine, a great trunk of a cigar might not go down too well!

re bartering - brilliant, wasn't aware of that either.
