Obluctation over obmutescent oblivescence...

Global Populism Rises To Highest Level Since World War II [Zero Hedge]...of course liberals are blaming the Russians or anything rather than themselves. Looking at the article the other image - "Populism Index" - should give us all cause for concern: not since the late 1930s to 1941 has it been so high.
Of course one could blame the 'populists'* but that would be wrong: certainly in Europe we should blame the EU and all the anti-liberal anti-democratic anti common sense scumbag politicians who have brought us to this crux. Don't blame the effect, blame the cause. It could still be stopped, literally within weeks if the right decisions were to be taken. The fact that the necessary steps are so obvious yet no politician from any leading nation is taking those steps means only one thing: they want a race war and they want a holy war.

Olympian overhaul...
"Olympics 'dominated by privately educated'" screams the headline. I ask how many of those Chinese, US, Korean, Kazakh, and Russian athletes are privately educated. Not so: Conservative politician Lord Moynihan, Chairman of the British Olympic Association [BOA] (and a gold medal winner himself:
Readdressing my sarcastic comment about the other countries: very few sports these days, at elite level, are simple or cheap; apart from natural talent and parental (and/or coach) support and encouragement to get the ball rolling, it takes time and money and dedication; and then more time and money and time and money and dedication. Update: "But is the under-representation of state-school-educated athletes in Britain's Olympic medal table really down to the sharp elbows of the posh? Or is it down to the retiring of the competitive ethos and the rise of a culture of low expectations in state schools themselves? I think it's the latter. [so do I!!] Just as state-school pupils are no longer considered capable of learning Latin or of reading too many classic texts that are not "relevant" to their lives, so they are also considered incapable of handling the pressures of competitive sport. On many state-school playing fields, all-out, hardcore competition, the ideal of being the best and proving you are the best, is frowned upon as inappropriate, as potentially giving rise to an unacceptable social divide between "winners" and "losers". State-school sports lessons are now more about boosting kids' self-esteem and shrinking their waistlines than about encouraging them to be singular, head-strong winners – and that is not conducive to creating future Olympians." Obscene oligarchy...
Time to dust off the 'Le rasoir national', the 'capital' device invented by Dr Joseph Ignance Guillotin: he suggested this beheading device with the intent of creating a socially equal form of capital punishment; they don't deserve the honour but it sounds just the job for swollen headed pretentious nonentities with a penchant for sapping and clawing their unearned wealth from the worn and blistered hands of toiling, hard-done-by, persecuted Euro taxpayers. No, not the casino bankers but Eurocrats! Last week saw the judgement (EUR-Lex) from proceedings that started towards the end of 2010: Michel Bourges-Maunoury and Marie-Louise Heintz (married and retired Eurocrats) went to Court of Justice to avoid tax; the operative part of the ruling is "On those grounds, the Court (Third Chamber) hereby rules:
The second paragraph of Article 13 of the Protocol on the Privileges and Immunities of the European Communities, initially annexed to the Treaty establishing a single Council and a single Commission of the European Communities, and subsequently, under the Amsterdam Treaty, to the EC Treaty must be interpreted as meaning that it precludes national legislation such as that at issue in the main proceedings which takes account of the income, including the pensions and allowances on termination of service, paid by the European Union to its officials and other staff, or to its former officials and former staff, in calculating the cap on a tax such as the wealth tax."
Or, as the Express put it: "income paid by the EU and subject to EU tax could not be taxed 'either directly or indirectly by a member state'. It also ruled that recipients were exempt from declaring the amount to national tax authorities." We have our own oligarchic shysters in the form of the Kinnocks (and others) whose MONTHLY combined pension is 33% higher than the ANNUAL income of most single pensioners.
