Obluctation over obmutescent oblivescence...

'Our destiny is frequently met in the very paths we take to avoid it.'

Jean de La Fontaine, Book VIII (1678–1679), fable 16 (The Horoscope)

Global Populism Rises To Highest Level Since World War II [Zero Hedge]...of course liberals are blaming the Russians or anything rather than themselves. Looking at the article the other image - "Populism Index" - should give us all cause for concern: not since the late 1930s to 1941 has it been so high.

Of course one could blame the 'populists'* but that would be wrong: certainly in Europe we should blame the EU and all the anti-liberal anti-democratic anti common sense scumbag politicians who have brought us to this crux. Don't blame the effect, blame the cause. It could still be stopped, literally within weeks if the right decisions were to be taken. The fact that the necessary steps are so obvious yet no politician from any leading nation is taking those steps means only one thing: they want a race war and they want a holy war.

* "Populism is a political philosophy supporting the rights and power of the people in their struggle against a privileged elite" [Wiki]. Anyone see anything wrong with that?

Outing Osborne & other obscurantists...

From Dan Hannan: 'Extraordinary'...Germany's Federal Minister of Finance 'admits he only threatened to exclude us from the market because George Osborne asked him to'! Also, "Another line added to the truth & reconciliation table..." From 'Liberal Leaver' Roland Smith @whitewednesday on Twitter. Also author of the Liberal case for Leave: "a global, outward-looking and ambitiously positive" Brexit vision. The other line being Nigel Farage resigning as leader of UKIP today, totally at odds with what Remain threatened.

Offensive or Overreaction III?...

Sports Illustrated's 2013 Swimsuit Issue; Katie Upton is on the cover again but another issue is if they are "perpetuating racial stereotypes by drawing power and class lines between the Westernized models and the 'primitive locals'" as Jezebel Mag Hag argues....hmmm, there are a few pictures on the Yahoo!News link (fast heading toward eleven thousand comments!) but the Jezebel website has far more: surely adding to the exploitation if any existed.  "People are not props", they say, 'Why not?' I ask and they tend to shoot themselves in the foot by adding "Using people of color as background or extras is a popular fashion trope... ...But although it's prevalent, it's very distasteful". Eh? People of colour? Half the models are people of colour and is it OK if the 'props' are white people? Anyway, the hat-tipee Weasel Zippers makes a good point about Yahoo!News' saying that the "reaction has been mixed, even among the men who are supposed to be titillated": "Someone needs to tell Yahoo! News the men who comment on liberal feminist blogs are not even remotely representative...".

Interesting factoid: The swimsuit edition 'has become one of Time Inc.’s biggest revenue drivers over the years, bringing in more than $1 billion' [Forbes] Wow.
